(No fault) Divorce reform coming (at last)

The Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Bill is working its way through Parliament.  It will reform divorce law; divorcing couples will no longer have to make allegations of unreasonable behaviour or adultery against each other if they wish to divorce more quickly than two years after their separation.  This is a long-overdue sensible reform that will eliminate the acrimony that the current law brings about, where the first step in the process is often one spouse having to make allegations that the marriage has broken down because of the other’s behaviour or adultery.  Having to make such allegations doesn’t provide a positive context for resolving other issues, relating to children and/or finances.  Mark Tattersall, solicitor-director at Chivers Walsh Family Law.
